Open Lines of Communication – The Key to Our Mutual Success

Spring 2022 Issue

By Jeff Blevins, Manager of Property Loss Consulting

As your partner, we value the open communication we have with you. You can contact us 24/7 and we always will respond as soon as possible. It’s our goal to support you in responding to increasing challenges of property losses, whether they are storm events, complex fire losses or everyday claims.

Whenever you have a loss, timely reporting and communicating about exposures over your retention are vital. The information enables us to assist with claims-handling procedures and strategies, salvage or subrogation recovery, and in determining the need for outside experts and legal counsel. It’s also important in helping WRC maintain accurate reserves and meet the requirements we have to our outgoing reinsurers.

WRC requires next business day notice on any loss where the exposure is expected to exceed your mutual’s Per Risk retention (prior to any ceding on the policy).  Once you know about a new loss that will likely exceed your retention, you can provide notice to WRC even if you don’t have all the information. When initially reporting a loss to WRC, we only request the one-page Reinsurance Loss Report Notice with the basic claim information you have at the time along with the policy declarations pages. We will contact you for additional details regarding the cause and extent of the loss.

You can contact us for help with losses of any size. 2022 marks my 14th year at WRC working with mutuals and assisting with property claims. Property Loss Consultant Steve Carroll also brings a wealth of experience to the Mutual Assistance team.

Whether you’d like guidance in loss prevention, daily claims or handling a significant storm event, we’ll be here when you need us.
