Personal/Farm Umbrella

An umbrella policy should be carried by anyone who has assets to protect. If you are sued, you could be forced to pay a legal judgment from your current assets and future earnings. This form of liability insurance supplements the underlying liability policies such as your home or farm policy, a renters policy, auto, etc.  Most carriers require at least $300,000 of underlying liability coverage, with many leaning towards $500,000.  In addition to providing higher liability coverages and defense costs, the policy protects against libel, slander, defamation of character, and invasion of privacy.   It will extend to international occurrences as well.
