As summer approaches and spring is past, this is a great time of the year to focus on some common weather-related claims we see.

Wind and hail events tend to be on our minds during these months as we nervously monitor weather reports and cringe at the sight of a darkening cloud.

Hail and weather-related incidents will most commonly fall under Other Than Collision coverage in the 1st Auto and Casualty Personal Auto policy. According to statistics culled from NOAA’s Severe Storms database, there were 5,601 major hail storms in 2016, with May having the greatest number of storms at 1,511. During the previous five years, claims related to wind and hail damage on a national basis accounted for almost 40 percent of all insured losses, averaging approximately $15 billion annually, and growing each year.

While we cannot control the weather patterns, 1st Auto and Casualty is committed to leveraging the resources available in affected communities to make the process as smooth and timely as possible. We also want customers to choose the repair process they feel best suits their needs. With hail related damage, this typically includes either Conventional Hail Repair or Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). In some areas of the country, 1st Auto and Casualty staff can assist the customer in locating a shop through our Direct Repair program, if the customer does not have a shop selected to complete the repairs.

Customer Service is our main goal as we assist our customers and agents throughout the claim. We want to make the process as seamless as possible with the end goal of getting the customer’s life back to normal, as quickly and effectively as possible so they can enjoy these warm summer months.
