Senior Business Systems Analyst

Responsibilities (Primary/Secondary/Other)


Core Areas of Focus

  • Insurance Now (policy, billing and claims).
  • Looker/Insights (data and reporting).
  • System interfaces (and other business systems as assigned).

System Design and Development

  • Collect, analyze and evaluate business and data requirements from subject matter experts and process owners.
  • Consult with personnel from various departments and identify areas for the development of technical solutions to automate and/or improve business processes.
  • Document and maintain/update business and process flows.
  • Document and maintain/update requirements and changes to requirements.
  • Document and maintain/update test plans, test scripts and defect management.
  • Evaluate current systems and processes in all departments.
  • Research and assist in selecting new software vendors as required.
  • Coordinate with software vendors on systems requirements.
  • Determine systems dependencies between all internal systems.
  • Assist and develop testing plans for UAT phase of projects.
  • Assist users, gather feedback and make improvements to the systems in the testing phase.
  • Serve as liaison between external vendors, DBA and IS team for system and application development.
  • Lead the team on current system projects.
  • Evaluate system integrity with backend testing.
  • Maintain and support the Insurance Now configurations and interfaces.

Deployment and Operations

  • Manage internal and external client relationships.
  • Evaluate system integrity with backend testing.
  • Monitor systems administration cost in both pre- and post-implementation phases.
  • Coordinate with WRC IS team to ensure all hardware, systems and security requirements are in place.
  • Mentor others in the department/project team members.
  • Determine user rights and access at internal and network levels.
  • Assist users, gather feedback and make improvements to the systems.
  • Create ad hoc reports using current report writing software.
  • Troubleshoot systems issues, manage users’ change requests, and work with subject matter experts and vendors to resolve them.
  • Coordinate systems upgrade with vendors and WRC IS team.
  • Work with departments to help develop system-related workflows.

Other Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities) required of candidates

Technical skills

  • Knowledge of insurance policy administration systems.
  • Knowledge of report creation tools, principles and concepts, including SQL.
  • Knowledge and experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience supporting third-party system interfaces.
  • JAVA knowledge helpful.

Business skills

  • Technical mentorship and guidance for team business analysts.
  • Leadership and management of system project initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Project Management Waterfall and Agile concepts.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with property casualty insurance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Expectation of work in the office versus remote work

  • Option to work remotely (from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota or Missouri), with an exception to come into the office at least once a quarter for company and team-related events.
