Property Loss Consultant

Reports to: Vice President of Mutual Assistance

Exempt (not subject to overtime)

Position Overview

The Property Loss Consultant will serve as a technical expert to assist with insuring proper handling of property claims with our mutual clients throughout the Midwest, insuring accurate claims handling and adherence to industry guidelines. Some of the key features of this role will be day-to-day assistance with estimating, letter writing, direction and oversight for property losses in the Home, Farm and Commercial fields.

The Property Loss Consultant will conduct file reviews and assist in developing action plans for clients who need them. The Property Loss Consultant will develop and maintain a strong network of independent companies that can be utilized by our clients in the event of storms or other situations.

Other key proficiencies are effective negotiation, consultative and facilitation skills, along with the ability to effectively partner, collaborate and communicate with internal and external partners. You will also need to demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and have knowledge of Xactimate, Microsoft Office and other business-related software.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or at least 5 years of related experience

Expectation of Work in the Office Versus Remote Work

  • Regularly works from home. Option to work remotely from Wisconsin, Illinois or Missouri, with an exception to come into the office as needed (at least once a quarter for company- and team-related events). This position requires overnight traveling approximately 15% of the time.

Responsibilities (Primary/Secondary/Other)

  • Provide direction, education and assistance to client companies in handling property claims, including proper adjustment methods, investigations, salvage and subrogation, along with Loss Control
  • Assist in monitoring reserve development and history of open reinsurance claims, including follow-up after initial reporting and tracking potential subrogation activity
  • Identify potential adjusting problems and assist clients in developing strategies to resolve difficult claim issues
  • Perform Claims and Loss Control reviews
  • Identify and research trends that impact property claims and indemnity costs
  • Assist in establishing best practices and responses for our clients to effectively manage claims
  • Provide leadership and administration of the Catastrophe Assistance Program
  • Assist clients in preparation of catastrophic claims
  • Develop vendor partnerships and monitor vendor performance
  • Provide direction and work with clients to properly handle bad faith claims
  • Direct and maintain control over large losses for proper procedures
  • Develop and maintain resources and training materials
  • Lead all claims training
  • Assist with Loss Control training
  • Write quarterly Loss Control and Claims articles
  • Lead virtual and in-person training
  • Represent WRC at state association events
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Mutual Assistance

Computer Skills Required for Position

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Xactimate
  • Ability to work with various types of technology

Other Experience Preferred of Candidates

  • Previous experience working in the mutual industry
