areas in the states of Arkansas, Illinois,
Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, and
Wisconsin.

WISCONSIN REINSURANCE CORPORATION (WRC) markets to a broad spectrum of mutual insurance companies in the Midwest. With many years of experience in designing and implementing reinsurance contracts to fit the client company's needs, WRC is acknowledged as a leader in addressing the reinsurance and service needs for our clients.

WRC was formed in 1931 by a dozen Town Mutual insurance companies in Wisconsin who were interested in protecting each other against fire losses. The risks the companies insured quickly grew in size and WRC responded by increasing the capacity of the risks that could be insured. WRC also offered different programs to meet the specific needs of each company. This pooling concept was later formalized into reinsurance arrangements.

WRC continues to provide reinsurance protection and related services to the Mutual insurance industry in the Midwest.

Over the years, as the companies were able to write new lines of business, WRC added reinsurance protection for windstorm, liability, umbrella and commercial property and liability. WRC continues to meet the reinsurance needs of the companies through innovative reinsurance agreements and increased reinsurance capacity.

WRC recognized that its client companies needed additional support, so in 1984, the WRC Agency was created to provide an outlet for the lines of business the companies were unable to write. Another member of the WRC Group, the Wisconsin Adjusting Service Inc. (WASI) was incorporated in 1986 to assist its clients in the adjustment of liability claims.

After many years as a mutual insurance company, WRC became a stock corporation in 1991. This conversion enabled WRC to obtain additional capital and increase its financial strength in order to reinsure the larger, more complex risks that its clients were insuring. In the same year, 1st Auto & Casualty Insurance Company (1st Auto) was formed to provide automobile and umbrella insurance protection to the policyholders of the companies that WRC reinsures.

WRC continues its service to the industry by becoming admitted in the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and South Dakota. WRC adapts to the changing needs of the companies that it serves through expanded capacity, new products and expanded services.

The majority of stock in WRC is owned by its reinsured clients. This client / owner relationship forms the foundation of a long term, stable partnership. The board of directors of WRC is composed of nine men and women who are full-time managers of reinsured companies. This provides WRC with the guidance and direction to focus on the needs of the companies that we serve.
